CVT Transmission vs. Traditional Automatic
CVT transmissions control power output and speed using pulleys connecting the transmission and engine with a steel cable or belt. Unlike a traditional automatic transmission that’s limited to a 5-range gear output, CVT transmission do not have any gears and have an unlimited number of shift points within the minimum and maximum speed range.
A traditional automatic transmission uses a series of gear ratios from low, medium, and high to sending power to the wheels from the engine to the wheels to control speed. Revving to high RPMs while accelerating uses much more gas than the superior fuel-efficiency of a CVT.
A CVT transmission is not only more efficient, it is cleaner, lighter, and capable of higher performance. These characteristics make CVT transmissions ideal for many smaller sedans, SUVs, and compact cars.

CVT Transmission Fluid Change
A CVT transmission does not require regular fluid changes, they use a special type of transmission fluid intended to last the lifetime of the car. However, most manufacturers recommend that you change CVT transmission fluid when the vehicle reaches 100,000 miles on the odometer.
You won’t find a dipstick on a CVT tranny either, instead an obscure service port is positioned for mechanics to check should the transmission need maintenance or repairs. But there’s one caveat; most of the CVT service ports have a seal fitted by the dealer that if tampered with will void the warranty. Don’t touch it, leave it to the professionals.
